June Photo A Day ~ Day 15

Day 15 ~ Yellow

This was one of the amazing water lilies that bloomed in my fish pond. This was also the last time I saw the plant blossom as my fish ate it. I gather it tastes as good as it looks!

Day 23 ~ Vegetable

One morning I found a pumpkin growing in our back yard. I hear you saying “oh ok but so what?” well, we can’t remember ever planting a pumpkin patch!

We picked that pumpkin and made the most delicious pumpkin soup I have ever eaten. We also had enough left over to eat with a roast dinner and it was so sweet we didn’t need to add any gravy to it.

This morning half of the patch was covered in bright yellow flowers and you know what that means? More pumpkins. Yum!!!

Day 16 ~ Flower

For as long as I can remember my life has been filled with flowers. My Mother is a “green-thumb” and loves to garden. One of her closest friends is a florist so our home always had a fresh bunch of flowers somewhere. I was also lucky enough to be taught her skills and helped as much as I could when I was on holidays from uni.

It’s amazing how flowers in bloom can really change the mood!

Day 13 ~ Something You Found

I absolutely love frangipani trees. I planted one in my old house and 11 years later is HUGE. So big in fact that I had to trim it when my tenants moved out. Luckily with frangipani’s you can take cuttings from them so I cut off 4 and took them back to my own home to plant. Little did I realise when I got home that my “cuttings” were so big, when planted they looked like trees and the one I gave to my neighbour he was able to 4 plants from.

I lined 3 of them up in a row along our fence in view of our outdoor dining setting so we can enjoy them in bloom. I knew when I planted them they may go in to shock, and that they did. They didn’t look happy at all but amazingly one of them has bounced back to life even though it’s not the time for them to.

This morning I woke to a few gorgeous pale pink flowers that smell absolutely divine. I can’t wait ’til next Summer when all 3 of them are in full bloom.

5 Things

Yes, I have been a bit quiet this past week. The only thing I can put it down to is being extremely busy. Since we had a major shift in our office, people saying goodbye & people saying hello my job has taken on a new turn and I’m finding myself “head down/bum up”. I cannot say whether or not I’m completely amused by the changes but it keeps me busy and we all have to realise that things happen for a reason and we must look at the good reasons why.

To keep myself motivated, I have decided to list this weeks 5 things to keep me smiling…

✭ First & foremost, I have my health

✭ I have a loving family, I know I can count on

✭ Remembering to always “stop & smell the roses”

✭ Waking up to Jordan’s smiling face, while he sits next to me patiently waiting for me to get up

✭ I am achieving my goals…nearly!

Point + Shoot ~ Water Lily Blooms

The Husband came up with what he thought was such an awesome idea…let’s get a fish pond! As much as we all know how much I love animals, to be honest I couldn’t be bothered with a fish pond. I’ve had my fair share of fish and really they are just far too hard to look after.

But no, he didn’t listen and we ended up with 50 fish. 50 fish that guess who had to look after? Moi. And 50 fish that really did not fit in the bowl/pot we had purchased to put them in. So, the quest was on to find a more suitable home for them and we chose a big pot that looked like it sort of came out of the Pirates of the Caribbean.

I must admit, I actually enjoy them and was completely heart broken when we came home the afternoon of the scorcher we experienced a few weeks to half of them floating along the top of the water gasping for air :-( they were cooking int the water. 3 of us did everything we could but unfortunately 18 of them just couldn’t cope. We now have a temporary gazebo set up over them and thank goodness has kept them cool.

Yesterday the water lillies also started to bloom, so I guess that means everyone is happy! I think it’s absolutely amazing though that they close themselves at night and reopen during the day.
